I made it to Nancy. Missed the first day, but it’s going to be a long week anyway. After some initial trouble with the accommodation – or lack thereof – I’m now safely installed. I’ve even found a nice, affordable Chambertin to celebrate the arrival with. It was, allegedly, Napoleon’s favourite red wine which he drank in great quantities during campaigns, although to everyone’s dismay watered out beyond recognition. The Chambertin is a Burgundy, but even if not precisely native to Nancy it’s close enough for me. Another thing that’s close enough is Lunéville and its famous Château. It was, of course, scene of the great Treaty of Lunéville, and so a small excursion is in order.
Great programme for the CLMPS available here. Looking forward to meeting lots of friends and colleagues tomorrow.
